Fruit & Veggie Storage Guide

Refrigerator

Apples, Pears, Berries, Cherries, Grapes, Fresh herbs (except Basil- keep Basil stems moist and wrap loosely in plastic). Leafy greens, Green Beans, Broccoli, Cauliflower, Beets, Turnips, Carrots, Melon, Mushrooms, Celery, Corn

Kitchen Countertop

Bananas, Tomatoes, ripe Avocados, Apricots, Nectarines, Peaches, and Plums in a paper bag, then move to the fridge to last few days more. Store Lemons, Limes, Oranges, and Grapefruit loose or in a mesh bag. Refrigerate for longer storage.

Counter Top & Refrigerator

Store loosely and away from sunlight, heat & moisture: Apples, Mangoes, Peaches, Watermelon, Papaya, Avocados, Kiwi

Pantry

Pack away in cool, dark space: Garlic, Onions, Shallots, Sweet Potatoes, Potatoes, Yams, Watermelon, Hard Squash (Winter, Acorn, Spaghetti, Butternut)

Other Storage Tip

To make refrigerated fruit & vegetables last longer: store in mason jars. Also put a paper towel in the mason jar. It will help absorb moisture which is what causes the food to go bad.
